Mom, Jo Stafford died this week. I know you two were Long Beach girls. Let’s remember her with this song and here are the lyrics so you can sing along with me. :o)
Dream, when you’re feeling blue
Dream, that’s the thing to do
Dream, while the smoke rings rise in the air
You’ll find your share of memories there
So dream, when the day is through
Dream, and they might come true
Things never are as bad as they seem
So dream, dream, dream
Things never are as bad as they seem
So DREAM, DREAM, DREAM
Here an interesting obit.
Oh…another of the dear and golden ones..lost to us. I just am saddened by this.
Wowser Carole, I’ve added to this post three times in the last two minutes and still you found it right away. Jo will be remembered through her music legacy. And the (just added) link to the Washington Post obit is fascinating!
I remember Jo Stafford very well. She had a lovely voice.
By the way, your mother is a lovely lady!
The minute I read this, I began singing "Dream" and I remembered all the words. How I miss the singers from when we were young. Our songs had melody, and the words had meaning. You could feel a spiritual connection with them. Today, well I can’t connect with the painfully loud schreeching and loud drumming. Apparently it speaks to today’s young people, but I don’t understand it anymore than the fact of messy and sloppy appearance. What’s to be proud of? Of course when I was young I vowed I’d never be a fussy old woman complaining about the music of the young. (LOL) Jo stafford was a fine singer. Rosemary Clooney, and Patty Page, and many others are an important part of who I am. Mom
Wow! She was a LADY with z big L!!!!
I hope is keep singing in heaven!
Thanks for sharing.
Take care,
Isa
P.S I love the 40’s – 60’s music!
