The foliage has been losing its freshness through the month of August, and here and there a yellow leaf shows itself like the first gray hair amidst the locks of a beauty who has seen one season too many…. September is dressing herself in showy dahlias and splendid marigolds and starry zinnias. October, the extravagant sister, has ordered an immense amount of the most gorgeous forest tapestry for her grand reception. ~ Oliver Wendell Holmes
I enjoy the passing of the seasons and this Fall beacons with her cooler weather, promises of rain, and changing colors in the trees. I tend to think of the seasons a different style opportunities for mother nature, mother earth, aka Gaia. Whatever you call it, nature presents a fascinating tableau of colors, weather, and animals to to watch.
My favorite animal to watch is the human species, of course. But then, I might be biased. People seem to be so busy now-a-daze, in a hurry to get to work, the grocery store, or the doctor. I have to say one of the best aspects of retirement for me is that I rarely am in a hurry anymore. I notice the finely dressed or nearly dressed people out there. I see the athletic, nerdy, momly, and happy people and they capture my attention for brief periods of time as they rush by.
So my family and friends, consider taking the time to enjoy your passage through time. I suspect that when you take the time to really look about, breath in deeps, concentrate on the beauty that is out there, you can, for a moment, slow down the passage of time.
