Once

I discovered a tasty little morsel of a movie last year that I have seen twice more since the find. The movie is called “Once”. This is one of many songs from the movie.

Delightful, fluffy, and interesting could describe both the movie and this video.

imageIt turns out Glen Hansard is an Academy Award–winning principal songwriter and vocalist/guitarist for Irish group The Frames and one half of folk rock duo, The Swell Season. He is also known for his acting, having appeared in the BAFTA winning film The Commitments, as well as starring in the film Once.

His song “Falling Slowly” from Once, co-written with Markéta Irglová, won the Academy-Award for Best Original Song in 2007, and earned him ten other major nominations or awards between 2007 and 2008.

imageI posted this video on my Facebook profile page and my sister Debby decided she wanted to explore this singer a bit more. I also imagine my cousin Margaret Davis who is a singer, Celtic harper, and flutist and who has dedicated her life to performing original arrangements of Celtic and Medieval music, sounds a lot like this. So I thought I’d post this up here as a reference.

Funny! Today, I just watched this movie for the fifth time! Though I’m not really a musician, but all songs in that are really great.
