Wizard of Oz – Redux

The-Wizard-of-OZ-01 I found this article on the Designing Inspiration, well… inspirational. Having dabbled in art, in fact minor’ing (hey coined a new word) in that field in college, these 25 various takes on the old classic make me want to take up the pencil again. My son is very good at capturing the essence of a situation or person in art. He also designs computer games and is a senior admin at the Infinity Mugen Team forum. So this post is mostly for him.

The illustration is by designed by Sebastian Giacobino. From the article “The Wizard of Oz is a 1939 American musical-fantasy film mainly directed by Victor Fleming and based on the 1900 children’s novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum. In the film, Dorothy, a schoolgirl living in Kansas, is struck unconscious during a tornado. She dreams about how she and her dog Toto, with the help of a Scarecrow, a Tin man and a Cowardly Lion, find their way home from the magical world of Oz.

Many people like these four characters very much: sweet Dorothy, smart Scarecrow, brave Tin man and sensitive Lion. Many artists like them as well, and they have created various artworks featuring the four to show their fondness. We have selected 25 of the best illustrations, which might remind you of that magical world and that famous song “Over the Rainbow”.

Note it was hard to pick just one characterization as so many of them were excellent. But the idea was to tease you with just one shot to get you to view the rest at the Designing Inspiration site. Enjoy.
