Greetings from Seattle, aka the Emerald City. This is Gandalfe, aka JaAG to my friends at work, aka Jim Glass to my family. I’m mostly an itinerant jazz saxophonist trying to find life between the changes. Oh, did I mention that after retiring from the Corps of Engineers after 20 years of service to the US Army, I’ve worked at Microsoft for 20 years. Now in my spare time, I admin on the Woodwind Forum and manage the Microsoft Jazz Band.
I have an extensive collection of saxophones from the dimutive soprillo sax to the scary cool bass sax custom made with keyworks to low A. I also have a contempory collection of clarinets from the effer to the contrabass clarinet. I also have two really nice metal soprano clarinets, a silver Selmer Paris with a tunable barrel and a Buescher TruTone with albert keyworks.

Not always politically correct, sometimes outspoken, I am often found posting stuff that might offend some. If you have a sense of humor and an inquisitive spirit, you might find some posts that you like. Feel free to point to anything on this blog as long as you mention either my name or the name of this blog. Cheers.

I’ve been looking around. Nice blog you’ve got here! I’ve taken the liberty of subscribing to it.
Hello Gandalfe, thanks for the visit – I’m pretty sure I’ve seen you around some of my other friends space back when we were on WLS?
I will have to come back and have a proper nose around when I have more time! I’m amazed at your saxaphones!
Eileen! :O)
Yup, I found you again through Witchy’s site. But she is really more active on Facebook, getting the natives there all riled up and such. It’s nice to meet you, albeit virtually again. Cheers.

Hey there. Nice blog you have here. I thanked you for stopping by over on my blog, but wanted to return the gesture and have a look around.
Reading about your saxophones, I thought about my 14-year old son who started taking alto sax lessons a couple months ago. It’s exciting, because one inspiration for naming him Julian was the great alto player Cannonball Adderley, whose real name, as you probably know, was Julian.
Cheers!
Paul and Fish, thank you so much for taking the time to comment. It’s nice to hear from my readers; rare even.
Hi there! I know nothing about saxophones, but like your blog. Keep it up!
Hey Jim,
Is there a way I could purchase the Billy Joel, “Just the Way You Are” quartet? Thanks! Russ
I’ll ping the arranger with your email and have him write you.
Jeff sez: please point him (or post on your blog) these links:
This is the version you have, in the original key:

…and here’s a version that’s been transposed up a step to make it easier for sax players (the baritone sax and alto sax are in C and tenor and soprano are in Bb here!):

Thank you Jim and Jeff. Really appreciate it!
You are welcome. If you record your performance, come back and give us a pointer. ;0)
